Dear Colleagues,

It is both an honor and a pleasure to organize SFRR-Europe 2011 Meeting in Istanbul. The meeting theme is “Redox Biology and Micronutrients: from signaling to translation and back“. The meeting will include plenary lectures by recognized leading scientists, and workshops with oral and poster presentations covering aspects from redox signaling, protein oxidation, cell proliferation and apoptosis to major chronic diseases, passing through micronutrients and plant antioxidants, exercise, aging and neurodegenerative diseases. Close collaboration of scientists from different areas of basic and applied research is needed for expanding the molecular studies to the characterization and modeling of the complex interactions of genes, proteins, and redox status, micronutrients in physiology and pathology. Multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach would thus be essential characteristics of the meeting.

The morning school sessions are intended for young scientists at the post-doctoral level, through graduate students. The lectures in this part will focus on basis subjects in this field such as free radical chemistry, signaling by reactive species, methodologies, use of animals in ageing and oxidative stress research, knockout models, clinical trials.

The meeting also features industry satellite and exhibits to complement the scientific session. This provides an opportunity to companies to exhibit their technologies and products to an international community of scientists from basic and applied research and industry participants.

Istanbul is the only city in the world built on two continents with a history of over 2,500 years. It stands on the shores of the Bosphorus where the waters of the Black Sea meet those of the Sea of Marmara and the Golden Horn. The city is one of the most beautiful, enchanting and lively cities of the world. It has an atmosphere of its own with its life-style, people and numerous attractions. It is the European Capital of Culture 2010. Istanbul has more than 30 universities with a high number of students, professors, research/teaching members and research centers. Istanbul is a perfect meeting city, which will leave you with everlasting memories.

Thus, on behalf of the Organizing Committee it is a pleasure to invite all our colleagues to attend the SFRR-Europe 2011 Meeting in Istanbul. We hope that the Meeting will represent a great scientific success and an enjoyable experience for all the participants. In addition, surely the Meeting will also offer the opportunity for fruitful discussions, as well as the possibility to initiate new friendships, collaborations and joint projects.
